Director: Faye Hughes of Inner Sanctum Theatre
Circa: 1896
Role: Designer
Achievements:    Using the shape of a seagulls wingspan was the starting point for creating a small, practical set within Deptford's Albany Theatre.  Using thick cardboard tubing, that were used to roll drapes around at Pinewood Studios, formed the body of the seagull to  stand tall, creating a stable background.  Tubing cut in half were placed either side of the main body to give the effect of wings.  One side of the entire structure was painted bright white, with some shading, and stood this way for the first half of the play.  For the second half, the tubing had been reversed to expose the dark grey side in contrast to the storyline and action that then took place.

Wooden blocks stuck to the base so the tubing could safely stand tall.

Blocks were made wide & high enough to slip the tubes on & remain sturdy for the actors.

The 'wings' of the design laid out to fit the size of the theatre space.  A full set of wings for the first half of the play, & above showing the areas to be removed for the second half.

Final stages of the 'body', painted white with shading & grey with shading for the before & after the interval.
Footage of clouds passing were filmed & projected on to the 'body' in the opening scene.
